You’ve hit on so many great points here, and it’s clear that you are super passionate about BioWare’s games. I've been a fan since the ME2 days. The negativity in the community lately is hard, and honestly, it’s refreshing to see someone come at it with a more balanced perspective. I'm in a bunch of FB groups about the games and there are a lot of discussions like this all the time. But yeah, not every game has been perfect, but it’s good to appreciate the amazing things BioWare has done while still hoping for improvements.
Your take on the Dragon Age series really hits some points. Origins, DA2, and Inquisition all have their own strengths, and while Veilguard is fun, I totally get what you're saying. It doesn’t quite have that same spark as the older games. I love your suggestion about BioWare taking a step back and really digging into what made the series so special in the first place. Going back to those roots, while still pushing things forward, could be exactly what the series needs if they ever release another Dragon Age. There are portions of the game that make me want to go play DAO again.
And Mass Effect, wow, what a journey, right? The first two games were absolute masterpieces, and while ME3 stirred up a lot of mixed feelings, it still had some really strong moments. ME2 will always be my jam though. Andromeda… yeah, it had some cool ideas, like the puzzles and the open exploration, but I get what you’re saying about the execution not landing. The combat flexibility was neat, but it did lose some of that signature class system that people loved. Like you, I’m really hoping the next Mass Effect captures the hair standing on the back of your neck feeling from the originals, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Anthem—what a heartbreaker. The flying and combat? Amazing. The rest? Not so much. It’s tough because you could feel the potential there, but it just didn’t come together. Your point about BioWare listening more to the community is spot on. Fans like us know what makes these games shine, and it’d be awesome if they tapped into that more when developing new projects. Whether it’s Dragon Age, Mass Effect, or something brand new, hearing from the players who love their games could make all the difference. One aspect I get tired of is when the toxic players take over. They are like the 1% of the player base but make their negative non non-constructive opinions so loud, that it takes away from those who love the games. It's exhausting.
it’s conversations like this that keep the fandom alive and remind everyone why we love these games so much. I wish social media had more conversations like this and less one-liner negative thoughts!
Yea the toxic community for some games or developers is a joke honestly it's not just EA. Dragon age Origins had some much content besides leveling strength willpower and all that besides abilities you took you could choose to level up traps potion crafting stealing and all that and replay ability Dragon age 2 had what stance you took in a conversation it showed you basically and the new combat system. Then inquisition free roam and crafting. Veilguard expands on a few things some tweaks with combat the talent system. You still could choose your gender and race which is part of your background along with class. changed a bit from Origins you choose human your either a noble or a circle mage though Veilguard did something different are you associated with the wardens veil jumpers or what? Would like to see that more if theres ever another Dragon Age. Have your race and different backgrounds then expand upon that who are you associated with more or something. Possibly end up a warrior with a body guard or bandit background so you know how to pick locks like rogues.
