Sadly BioWare repeats the same mistake these last 7 years :
- Sacrificing Mass Effect Andromeda (2017) to develop Anthem (2019) : Game updates and DLC cancelled only 6 months after the launch
- Sacrificing Anthem (2019) to develop Dragon Age The Veilguard (2024) : Anthem 2.0 cancelled in 2021
- Sacrificing Dragon Age The Veilguard (2024) to develop the next Mass Effect game : No DLC planned
Instead of fixing the games and taking responsibility (CD Projekt spent 3 years to fix Cyberpunk 2077), EA preferred to move on, abandoning the millions of loyal players who purchased and liked these games.
On one side they neglect the ones who support them all these years and on the other side they neglect the ones who like their franchises but didn't buy these games.
So I can understand why some players are very angry today.
“Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.”
- Ian Fleming, Goldfinger (James Bond, 007)
THIS sums up the issues! Sweeping a game under the rug doesn't remedy the problem.
I wanted - really wanted - to love The Veilguard. I am still trying to do so, but the more I hear from BioWare, the angrier I get.
They have said that our expectations were so high they would never have been able to satisfy them. What a load of crap! That is just making excuses for not caring about what you put (or didn't put) in the game!
My advice to BioWare: Before you "move on to Mass Effect 5," as you stated, you better fix the bull crap you did to The Veilguard if you want your "loyal fans" to even consider buying ME5 when it comes out. I know that if you do not fix The Veilguard, I will not pre-order, nor will I purchase ME5 when released - unless I hear from other gamers later on that it justifies purchasing.
BioWare, you need to own your mistakes and fix them and stop making excuses and abandoning games. Either BioWare or EA, or both, wherever the issues lie.
Remember your written dialogue from Varric to Rook - A good leader isn't someone who never makes mistakes... It's someone who admits they made a mistake when they do!
A thought: If it wasn't for EA having The Sims 4 that keeps on rehashing cheesy expansion packs over and over, I'm curious if EA would even still be around.
