Dragon Age 2. Bugged blocky pixelated jagged shadows

Ok, i basically have nothing left to do but to ask you guys for help. I recently started DA2 again and was unpleasantly surprised by all the weird shadows in the game despite using DX11 Renderer and having every setting on Max. Going back to DX9 renderer doesn't help at all. I do not remember having such problems several years ago even though i'm still on the same graphic card as before (it being Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. It's kinda old, yeah, but DA2 is old as well and it ran perfectly on it before).

The only thing that seemingly helps is to switch graphic options to High from Very high and vice versa and for the moment the shadows are perfect. But as soon as you hit Esc and go into the menu and then back to the game - here they are again.

I've been struggling for several days and nothing seems to change this even for a bit. I tried older nvidia drivers, newer drivers, changing settings in nvidia control panel but absolutely nothing makes these shadows change. And I don't even mean change for the best they don't change for the worse as well, nothing seems to affect them at all. I wish I could get SOME reaction because then i would figure out whatever is wrong with the bloody game

I also noticed the block shadows as I played DAII last month, a little less distinctive however.  RTX 3080 newest driver.

The only setting that worked was graphic options to low, which of course is a trad off.

It didn't bothered me as much, as it was not that visible in my game, so I decided to let the graphic options on very high.

But if this is really annoying you, this might be a way to work around the isuue.

Thank you for answering 🙂 Yeah, I feverishly searched for any fix but after looking through many other people's screenshots figured that's just how the game looks on ultra and modern big screens. I was worried my card was dying, but am relieved to know it's not the case. In the cutscenes everything looks fine and in the game i just zoom out a bit out of the scenes and don't focus on it. The shadows are looking bad only on the faces anyway.

Kinda really hope that one day Bioware will release some remaster of the game. DA2 is highly underrated even though it's not the best game overall

I agree, DAO and DAII both would deserve one. 🙂

    You're welcome!

If they remaster DA2, I hope they release it with the originally intended title: Dragon Age Exodus.
