Is there any chance the wrong audio device is trying to take over when the game is in full screen? You might want to disable any sound device you're not using in the Windows sound control panel. To find it, open the Windows control panel (Windows logo + 1 on your keyboard), then hardware and sound and click Sound.
Sometimes you might not be aware of some devices also being audio devices, like for instance graphics cards or PlayStation controllers.

@Fred_vdp Thank you it was my p4 controller that stopped sound from working lolThis happens to me all the time! When I want to play a game with a controller, I plug it into a USB port, and lo! My audio is gone!
