Dragon Age Inquisition - Freezing whole computer, occasionally crashing to BSOD

i am having same poblem also .. and no solution till now .. it has nothing to do with heating problem.. I guess its VGA issue since I have Titan Also. the only way to confim this by installing my old GTX 690 and see if i will have same crash issue.

I am having random freezes as well. It's so bad that I can't even start task manager to shut down DAI, I can only force shut my PC down, which is very bad for the registry files. So, until a solution is offered  I can't play the game or I'll risk to damage my PC. Really annoying.

Got the same problem, pc is freezing and sometimes unable to restart.

I ran into the same problems. At first I couldn't get past the creation of my character, but now the game crashes everytime any kind of cutscene is shown. After a funny talk with an employee of EA, which by the way was over 2 hours long, I've been told, that the problem is beeing caused by my graphics card (HD6870) or the driver and that I should call the support of AMD, in order to get a proper answer. So, I have a game, which I can't play and a support, that is unable or unwilling to provide some real help!

Funny, I have the exact same card as you.

At launch the game was hard freezing on the main menu every time I started the game and I had one BSOD, then I updated my drivers to the new beta as was recommended. Now the game freezes mostly on cutscenes and it's unplayable for longer than 20 minutes. Not much of an improvement. And to clarify it is the same problem as OP wherein my entire computer is frozen, and only audio continues to play. Can't open task manager, can't do anything except completely restart my computer. And no, it's not an overheating problem. I realize that everyone's PC is different but to have bought the game and being unable to play it for weeks is just awful. 

So support said we're supposed to call AMD and have them do what? There's nothing wrong with the drivers or my card! I can play every other game perfectly except for this one.

Same problem here. Tried all possible solutions posted on the web and still crashing randomly each play. Running ATI this doesnt seem to be a Nvidia/AMD issue. We need a patch ASAP.

Base on all replies, it has nothing to do with GPU make or model, the game utilizing too much power and that cause the GPU to overheat (tested with both GTX TITAN and 690).

I observed that when I installed my GTX 690 and while playing I can hear the loud fan noise which is never happened for me in many games. Then within 20 mins the game crash and I have to restart my PC. 

My CPU (i7-4790K) is water cooled, I swapped back my GTX TITAN, Also installed additional 120mm fan to blow direct cool air to the GPU and even put graphics on LOW settings ... but same result game crash and PC restarted.

I cannot say its poor game optimization since many of my friends have no issue with the game.

I just gave up since I tried all possible solutions on the net, I will wait for future patch in case bioware know about this issue or maybe try to buy PS4 version...

Note: I am playing AC Unity, Far Cry 4, Shadow of Mordor on Ultra setting and never had any issue.

had all the same **bleep** as you all.. went through the process of installing the specific driver for amd cat. FOR this game.

all was going well for the most part minus the Directx hiccup that was SUPPOSED To be fixed by the previously mentioned update.

now getting random game crashes and have had 2 blue screens. 

completely unacceptlable.....

Playing on Ultra/Fade Touched.

My system specs:

Corsair TX850W PSU

MSI Z68A-GD65 G3.

i7 2600k Stock clocks, h100i cooler.

16 GB ram using XMP in BIOS

GTX 970 4gb 344.75 drivers (thinking of rolling back to 344.65)

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

I had to update the BIOS on my motherboard to even use the GTX 970, wouldn't post otherwise. (Had to reactivate Windows afterwards, apparently was enough to trigger it)

Max temp on my CPU is 48°C and 68°C on the GPU when playing this game.

Try uninstalling the GPU drivers, reboot, clean registry with CCleaner, then reinstall the GPU drivers with clean install ticked and install only the GPU Driver and PhysX nothing else, none of the HDMI sound, 3D Vision and experience or whatever.

Add Origin and Dragon Age: Inquisition to the Firewall and Antivirus exception list.

Install latest Chipset drivers for your motherboard.

Update network/WIFI drivers.

Update sound drivers.

I need a Ivy CPU to use PCI-E Gen 3 so it is only using Gen 2 for me, dunno maybe bug in Gen 3 try switching to PCI-E Gen 2 in BIOS and see if it fixes issues for you, If it is set to AUTO change it manually. But for now just try turning off Link State Power Management in Windows first before making change in BIOS.

Seems there is a ) at the end of the last link that can't edit out, just remove it if you get a error opening the link.

If your motherboard BIOS is very outdated and new versions are out, might consider an update but this usually in the "if it works, don't change category." And done at your own risk since there is always a risk of bricking the motherboard.
