Dragon Age Inquisition Black Emporium Crafting Materials: Cannot Buy

After downloading the Black Emporium DLC for the Ps3 version of the game I went there to view the crafting materials and schematics available. Everything seemed alright but then I encountered two issues.

One: The sound distortion or complete nullification. This one is quite common as other players have also experienced this. Problems include black loading screen freezes, no environment or speech sound and complete game crashes. I hope that this can be fixed in the near future as the emporium has some great stuff and it is a real pain to keep exiting the game and goig back into it.

Two: This one seems to be only me as I cannot find another thread on it. When looking at the crafting materials and selecting one to buy the game will not let me. It does not freeze or crash as I am able to exit the menu and go elsewhere but the "select" button (varies according to what platform the game version is on) does not work on this particular screen. Even if I have the money to buy said materials it still wont let me.

Any help on this via quick fix or news of a patch would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  • @DragonLover64 Unfortunately, you are correct about the sound issue being common on the old gen consoles. Bioware stopped support for previous gen consoles around patch 9 (they really don't handle the game well and required more patching/support than the other platforms), and there are no more patches or content intended for the game on any platform. In short, there will not be a fix or patch, sorry.

Some people have found that saving and restarting the console after leaving the Black Emporium fixes the sound issue (just make sure to create a separate save before going to the Black Emporium in case this method doesn't fix the problem for you, some people have found that nothing they do fixes the issue, other than avoiding going there at all). Generally they suggest saving up before going so you can buy everything you want and never go back again, as it's a bit of a pain having to reset the console every time.

As for the other issue, I haven't come across that one before, and it does seem weird. Perhaps loading from before entering the Black Emporium and trying again will help? Have you checked to make sure no other stores are having this issue?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news about the hopes of a patch (you are not the first hoping for patches for all the previous gen bugs, I'm afraid). Hopefully the reset thing at least helps with your sound issue.

Thank you for that Niah Dark

That sucks so am going to be waiting in vain. I caved and re downloaded the black emporium as well as deleting the utility data (not the save data). One of these has worked and I can now buy the crafting materials but the sound is not fixed. (not that I expected that to be fixed anyway.)

Checked the forums with this and I seem to be the only person that has this issue. I did try restarting the game and going back into the Black Emporium. No luck.

What works is re installing everything. Is such a pain but now I have access to the crafting materials. Will take your suggestion and only go there once to buy what I need.

Thank you for your help and hopefully this will help others as well. No idea if there is going to be a patch for this but from past experience we will be waiting in vain for this one as well.
