Dragon Age Inquisition gameplay frustration

Hello,

I bought this game a month ago.

Here are the problems so far.

  1. In battle mode (paused), cannot position (rotate/translate) the screen to see past obstacles (eg little rocks) in order to see correct team mate for revival. Result: Death of the entire squad and loss of long battle.

  2. Avoiding wildlife ... Main character leads ... rest follow him/her towards objective ... until a bear shows up then they all ignore lead and stay to fight the bear ... leaving the lead character to fight the objective alone.

  3. Kiting dangerous enemies. Attack, then ... lead party away from danger .. and attack again. Repeat until enemy is defeated. This common tactic is extremely difficult in Dragon Age Inquisition. You need to kite each team member one at a time. Commands located at the bottom right of the screen to hold position are for the whole group. This means I must kite each character individually and give the hold position command to all of them just so one can stand still in a temporarily safe place. Valuable tactic found in almost all games like this. Including previous Dragon Age games.

  4. Cannot position a character via the click of a mouse button!!! Must first select character then 'steer' it with the arrows. Extremely strange.

  5. Can't compare value of items via selling value (such as rings) to decide which is better to equip.

  6. Can't equip/replace items such as rings unless another ring is unequipped.

  • @F3AR_Combat; Some of your observations are valid, like the lack of a displayed value for inventory items unless engaged with a store.  But others are non-issues, at least when playing with k+m on a PC.

Either you are using a controller, (in which case I cannot help you) or you have not read/followed the manual/tutorials well enough.

For example: to swap equipment you can just double-click on the new item in your inventory, and the command for the entire party to follow the leader, or attack a specific target, can be a click+key-combination. Similarly, changing the camera POV in combat is a simple click-hold with mouse-spin.

The differences in AI tactics and movement mechanics from the previous DA games are mostly due to the switch of the game engine to Frostbite, which was originally developed just for FPS games. EA has mandated Frostbite for all of its AAA games for several reasons.  One is "they already own it", and another is that Frostbite allows very easy porting of a game between all three major platforms.
