Each time you open a door with shards, those shards are used up or destroyed in the use. So to open all three doors for one element you should need 36 shards found, with a total used in the temple of about 114 shards, but then there are a total of 126 shards in the game if the Wiki is correct.
So if you wish to open all the doors, you have a bunch of shard hunting to do.
