Why not disable the HD graphic in the BIOS?  My PC had the option, others should too.

Anyone gullible enough to buy a laptop with only half of a GPU cannot shut off the IGP at all -- nVIDIA Optimus devices have been decapitated, and have only a "back end" left.  Those video things want to remain asleep and always have to be kick started in the Geforce Control Panel.
