Dragon Age Origins language problem

When I install Dragon Age Origins through Origin I only get 1 language to choose from and that language is German. I have played the game from the CD on English but it got scratched so I activated it on Origin but I only get to choose German as language.

In the config which you can start from the launcher I looked if there was anyway to change language there and it was but the problem was that i could only choose from Duetsch and de-de. So I looked up the DragonAge.ini file and tried changing it manually there to us-us instead of de-de. First I thought it was a success because the launcher was now in English but when I press play and get into the game it is in German and when I close the game and start the launcher agian it has switched back to german.

Tried searching for answers but none of the the 2 people who had a similar problem resulted in solving this. ☹️

  • Ahhh Ha!

You are getting only the Deutsch option because of your location (or possibly, the location of the vendor.)

I would first try changing that setting (your "Country") for your EA/Origin account to be UK or US, then try un-/re-installing.  Go to your account settings and look around.  I forget exactly where to find it.  You can change it back after you get things working.

If that doesn't work, then I think you're back to the option I provided in my first reply:

If after uninstalling your current game you don't get the option to install the English version, you'll need to talk to an "EA Game Advisor". They are the only "official" support people, and you can reach them through the Help Center.

BTW:  The reason more languages were included on the CD/DVD was disc space vs. bandwidth.  (And even with the disc version not all were included.  There are different ones with different languages included.  Exactly which ones depends on the location of the distributor/vendor of the product, and/or the customer address.)  It is incredibly cheap to throw a few more files on a disc.  Even enormous ones like all the recorded dialogue.  But in most of the world (and especially in the EU) people pay for their internet by the MB.  There would be outrage if EA sent all the those unnecessary bytes for "other" languages to people who would never use them.

Of course they should have included a way to designate which language the player wanted before beginning the d/l process.  But since when is EA the most saavy outfit when it comes to understanding how things should work from the customer's perspective?  They thought they were doing a favour by providing only the "right" files.  <facepalm>

  • The only way to change the language of the game (not the menus) is by doing a complete un-/re-install.

You have an account or code problem.  I'm curious, what was your source (vendor and medium) for the install?

(BTW:  The designation on the files you'd need to see is "-en", not "-us".)

I re:installed it today and I was only presented German as a language. I bought it from webhallen which is one of Swedens biggest online store for computer related stuff and is 100% legit. The thing I find wierd is that I got all language options when I installed it through the CD but not when I activated it and tried install it through Origin.

And sorry if this were the wrong place to post it. English is not my native language.

This actually solve a problem of the wrong naming of items etc.

In general, the game from origins store take the localization as "yours computer locale" and since your computer locale can be for example in my case CZECH, but the game is unintelligent enough that with combination Dragon's Age Origins in English + any DLC in "CZECH" installation as Origin store will enforce this one in case it have it available = disaster  ALL items from DLC are without names and even the speach, dialogs etc. are gone...

Worst part is, that you really have to reinstall whole game, otherwise it will not work properly.
