Yeah, sorry to necro this, but I'm having the same stupid issue. My PC is wayyyy overkill for this game (i7-4390/32GB DDR3/GTX 1080/Samsung EVO 850 SSD) and I'm crashing constantly, to the point where I can't even load saves in Denerim without just having a CTD. When I did as ppsgr81 did and lowered all my graphical settings to minimum, game runs fine. Makes no sense, as my machine should be able to play this game at max settings in it's sleep.
Anyone else ever had this issue and found a solution that doesn't make the game look like garbage?
I realize this is and old topic and an old reply, but I have not seen the fix for this problem being suggested by EA and this topic comes up top when Googling the problem. I had the same problem which was 'fixed' by setting video settings low.
If you have a 4gb ram videocard, this may be the source of the crashes.
Download the 4GB patch (you can google or just download this http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php), after unzipping it, run it and select the daorigins.exe. This fixed it for me, I can now play with high settings.
I hope this will still help someone!

Hi,
I was having the same issues and I downloaded the 4gb patch. However the game won't launch anymore. I tried to run it as admin, to launch it via Origin, then via the exe file but nothing is working....
Does anyone have a solution?

You mean you used the 4GB "hak"?
Sounds like you did something wrong. While totally unofficial and unsupported, I've been using that for years on both the base game (to postpone the inevitable area loading slooooowdown) and the Toolset (so I can edit those huge .das files from late in the game.)
Which version are you using, and what steps did you follow?

I just searched my whole PC for dragonage.exe and.. can't find it!
anyone know which file thread it should be in?

@AriKam; It is categorically impossible to have DAO installed and not be able to find "daorigins.exe". That is the base game executable. You may have suppressed the display of ".exe" files, but it is definitely on your machine or you haven't actually installed the game at all. (NOTE: The actual file name is not the one you cite.)
Default location: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship"

That's what I figured, but.. gotta love Windows 10, I can't find much of anything anymore.. see below...
- Anonymous7 years ago
It should be on the disc where you installed your game then in the file called ''Dragon Age'' and there in the file called ''bin_ship''. The .exe file is called ''daorigins''. If you bought the game on Origin, try to find it in your game library, right-click it and choose repair. It might help restore your .exe file if it's not there where I just described.
Hope this will help. đ
- Anonymous7 years agoSorry - no disk. I did have it from STEAM who referred me to EA help - after 3 calls, I uninstalled and reinstalled... but lost all my previous gameplay - should be back in denerim soon to see if I'm OK.

Willowy Warbler, thank you for posting the 4GB Patch. I have been having this crashing issue for the past few months and it started all of a sudden. Well, this fixed it and thank you! đ It took me a couple min to get what I was supposed to do, but my brain finally woke up and no more crashing after 30 -60 min of playing. đ

So I downloaded the patch and used it on the executable, but now my game won't start. It keeps throwing up an Error Code 51 and steam says i'm playing

TheDragonsFury,
Is your video driver updated? I did a little research on what an error code 51 was for steam and on some posts updating the video driver helped. If it isn't the video driver here is a site that lists some things to try: How To Fix Steam Error 51. At least this is a few things you can try to see if it helps. Good luck.

Found a link to a steam guide and file that fixed the issue for me. Here's the link

Just want to let you know this fix still works in 2020. Thank you!

This link worked for a few hours
https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?url=https://www.dropbox.com/s/f20a06alvt0ymeu/LAA%20DA-O%201.05%20.exe.zip?dl=1 Mine is through the client, btw.
DAO is crashing again. I don't know if it's cuz I'm nearly done (dwarves, elves, mages, Redcliffe - Eamon cured) or I'm in Denerim or what.
What can I do NOW?? Sigh...
