Dragonage Origins crashes windows 10.

i too have the issue of the game crashing randomly since installing windows 10.  But when my game crashes it locks up my whole pc and i have to remove the power cord to reboot the system.  all drivers are current.  i do run the game through steam.

The game freezes at random points , usally right after or during  one of the cutscenes , running windows 10 , game ran fine  under win 7 and 8 on the same PC all  game patches installed (version 1.05) most recent Origin Launcher and video drivers updated .

how to fix

@Galavant9 No one in this thread posted any useful diagnostic information. Often that means there will not be any answers.

the simple fix is to go to your properties and switch the run program to the software its use to simply by switching it to window xp or so should help you 

Ill have to look into finding what program they used by try switching it to a program that ran it and was intended for that usually helps with most games anyway 

I installed DirectX from this folder ~Dragon Age\__Installer\directx\redist

It's solved all problems at Ostagar(crashes, black textures, other visual bugs), game even looks better.

I had issues with DA:O when I got my Christmas present that I'm using to type this message. Windows 10, nice Nvidia card, yada, yada, yada. 

TL;DR: Not in any particular order

I change the compatibility mode to Win 7

Change affinity to only one of eleven CPU's--usually CPU 01 or something when launching the game. There are ways to make it permanent but, I don't mind doing it every launch.

I did a clean uninstall of all of the Nividia related items from the computer with the help of a YouTube video that directed me to a Direct download uninstaller program

Got rid of Nvidia Experience program that came with the drivers package. Just go to Nvidia's official site and download your video drivers from there. Works great but, you won't be notified when to download new ones... it's usually 3-5 weeks...

Change the video settings to LOW while in game. If you keep the settings maxed out the game will crash at random points and, yes, there are ways to prevent this and keep settings maxed out but, I haven't pursued it.

If you find some of this to be helpful I will track down the video I used to keep the game running and post it.
