DXGI_ERROR_NOT_CURRENTLY_AVAILABLE

Hello all, I am coming back to replay Dragon Age Inquisition. I was able to fully download the game AND all the add-ons, but when I run the game either in administration mode OR non administration mode I get the same error:

DirectX function 'FindClosestMatchingMode' failed with DXGI_ERROR_NOT_CURRENTLY_AVAILABLE ('The requested functionality is not supported by the device or the driver.'). GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, Driver: 38813.

The difference between now and back when I played was I originally ran it using Windows 8.1. Having to "trick" origin was the method I used before. I am now upgraded to Windows 10 and am experiencing this new error.

I have tried the method of deleting ALL of my NVIDIA files and re downloading them from the suggested link. This did nothing but download the updates I had before trying this. I do not have AVG as a firewall, but I did check my current firewall and it does give access to Origin and DA:Inquisition.

Here is my DxDiag in hopes that it will help find whatever error I am getting: https://hastebin.com/dekawewose.tex

Thank you for your help,

Jonathon

I can't explain why, but dude, that works!

Switch from 1920x1080 to 1680x1050, run the game, quit and switch again from 1680x1050 to recommended 1920x1080, then the game works fine!

    Thumbs up for you @PalindromeAnna

  • @RoflBBQLeetSauce I've got Inquisition working again somehow. I don't know if this will help anyone else since I have no idea why it worked for me but here it goes.

I went into my computer display settings (not in the game) and changed my screen resolution down one size so in my case from my recommended 1920x1080 to 1680x1050. I started Inquisition and it launched with no troubles and I played for a little and it worked fine. I exited and decided to see what would happen if I changed my screen resolution back to normal (1920x1080), launched the game again and it started up normally. I've been playing for a couple of days with no problems.

I also restarted my computer after changing it back to 1920x1080 and before playing the game but I don't know if that was necessary at all. Overall, this "fix" for me just seems odd since I don't know how it changed anything. I don't think it's likely that some sort of windows update happened in the 1 to 2 minutes it took me to try my game, have it crash, and then change my display settings and have the game work.

I'm sorry if this doesn't help anyone else. It really sucked to not be able to play my game for like three weeks.

@Mikmela I had the problem occur with a couple other games but haven't tried playing them to see if what I did fixed the problem. I uninstalled them out of frustration when the problem started happening. I haven't gotten around to installing them again and seeing if it worked.

I have never posted in any forum about a fix to a problem I had, but this is so insane I just had to. Thank you so much for posting this, spent ages trying to figure it out. Still can't believe this actually works. You're a legend 😉

  • Thank you very much!! This actually worked perfect! I don't know if the HDMI would have worked as I had no way to test it, but this method DOES WORK!

Experienced the same error with Battlefield 1 and i can confirm that even in this case rolling back the screen to 1680x1050  has worked perfectly. Huge thanks for the solution 👍

How is this possible???? After hours and hours of research, I come by this simple workaround and it's the only thing that worked.

    THANK YOU !!!!!

I had the same error here. ="Directx function 'findclosestmatchingmode' failed NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 Driver: 38813"

Not sure what I have to do. It's been some time I dont play BF Hardline, but used to do with Windows 8.1. After upgrade to Windows 10, never could play again
