It's a title. Not "Sir" but "Ser", it's for both male and female.
Ser Title reserved for Fereldan knights.

Exactly. In the Dragon Age series, ser is a unisex title. Other notable women in the DA series are Ser Cauthrien, Ser Aveline, and Ser Evangeline.
On a somewhat related note, women can be referred to with male prefixes in the real world as well, most notably in the military. Women can be referred to as 'sir'. In fiction, you can see this in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
