Help with the voice change issue. ( possible spoilers)

OK I know some people have already brought up the voice change after customizing hawke. I have had it happen as well. So I went back to the skyhold milestone save. Figured I would wait for the patch...

As I understand it the Hawke quest pushes forward the main storyline, but doesn't affect sidequests. Perhaps varric's personal storyline won't progress if you don't meet Hawke yet, but I haven't personally done much of it.
