How to I "temporarilty remove" my DLC and mods...? Dwarf Commoner glitch.

I've decided to go back through and re-play DA:O.  Dwarf Commoner.

In the very beginning of the game, when I go through Beraht's room, then out into the tunnel, nothing happens; no cutscene w/ Duncan, I can't leave the tunnel, just run up against the invisible wall.

All I can assume is I got some DLC or addon mod that is screwing it up.  (never had that problem before -- but that was on WinXP, this is a new system and OS)

I tried reloading an earlier save, but still no go.

So I'm thinking I can maybe "temporarily remove" all the DLC and addons I have, hopefully trigger that cutscene, then put them all back?

Thing is, aren't there different folders, as well as different ways to install DAO stuff?  DAZip vs copying files into folders, etc.  I haven't messed w/ this stuff in years, since last playing, so I don't even remember how/where I installed all this stuff to!

  • Have you tried unchecking your DLC/mods via the "Installed Content" tab (Main Menu >> Dlownloadable Content >> Installed Content)?

Yes, I tried that, chose the "Force Load" option, but didn't help.  Thought about trying it w/ an earlier save and playing a bit leading up to the supposed cut-scene, but haven't bothered.

I'm also wondering about trying a 'mod manager' or something.

I've been reading a bit on here... sounds like there are a lot of problems nowadays and things haven't been kept up.

If I 'move' any DLC files, I may not get them to ever work again.

There may be elements of mods in different folders depending on what the mod does, but the bulk will end up in the "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override" folder.

Generally speaking the game is pretty forgiving about items in the override folder; that is to say as long as it's in the folder it'll probably work even if you've organized the files by put each item into its own folder. Therefore if you want to temporarily remove something it's best to remove it from the override folder entirely.
