I'm +40 hours into the game, have received the personal quests of almost every companion (even when I hadn't finished their other missions) but I just can't get Dorian's. I have completed his first mission, I have high approval, I have spoken to him about everything...
I know it's something a lot of people are experiencing, so I just wanted to leave this here. Dorian is one of my favorite characters and I was excited about knowing more about him.
Please, fix this!! ☹️
What do you mean by "his first mission"? Do you mean "one less venatori"? That's not a requirement to trigger his companion quest.
There's apparently a bug where his companion quest doesn't trigger. I've read this can happen if his approval is too high before you go to Skyhold.
I believe the first thing that has to happen is a cutscene when you talk to Dorian about a letter to or from (forgot which) Felix (Alexius' son). Shortly thereafter, you have to talk to Mother Giselle in the throne room. As you said, this event may not trigger at all. For me it triggered very late in my second playthrough, while I got it very early in my first run.
