I've had a look at the playback and recording devices, as you suggested, but I'm not realy finding anything that would account for the problem I'm having.
It does seem like the game is doing somthing strange when I am playing, however.
My headset has a hardware mute button which, as I cant understand anyone else's chat, I use to mute myself when playing (voice activation only FTW).
Whenever I transition (into playing and from playing into a lobby) the game un-mutes my mic. I know this as when my mic is muted it turns from blue to red and visa versa.
I'm not sure if its related to the garbled/choppy multiplayer voice chat, but it's definately strange 😕mileyfrustrated:
