I managed to solve this myself by logging into my EA account at my desktop computer, and choose "Linked accounts" and then I could link my Playstation Network to this EA account, which in turn prompted me to log into my PS Network account (on that same desktop computer) to approve this linking.
Then, when I started the game again on my PS5, I could immediately start the gameplay. No linking or login was needed.
