Nvidia 8M Drivers

I am attempting to run a smooth(ish) game on a friend's laptop (Vista 32). but I'm having a few problems with drivers, he had the latest driver for hid Nvidia Geforce 8400m GS graphics card, from experience I know sometimes the latest drivers for Nvidia hardware do not support older games, I was right, it ran very well, but crashed about 10 minutes into DAO running, I tried all the other drivers on the Nvidia website, but on the search it only displays the most recent.

I tried running on the original factory driver but the game ran at an alarmingly slow frame rate, so started to search the web for older drivers than the ones on the Nvidia website but more recent than the factory driver. Not that it's terribly easy. I downloaded and installed v190.73 but an error with PhysX.

My question is this: What is the latest Nvidia driver for an 8m series graphics card known to work with DAO?

Thanks.

While there is nothing from a software point of view to use that will turn an elderly business quality system into a games capable machine, you can start by limiting the drivers tested to the window of time from three years ago, to 2 1/2 years ago,  when DA: O was new.

The 8400 was pure junk five years ago, and time hasn't improved it.

    Next to the practical minimum:

    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=576&card2=180

Here are the minimum requirements for XP and Vista and the recommended system requirements.

    Windows XP Minimum Specifications
    OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
    RAM: 1 GB or more
    DVD ROM (Physical copy)
    20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce "6600 GT" 128MB or greater (and this one is more wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GT, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures)

INTEL'S GARBAGE (Graphics Chip) IS NOT SUPPORTED

There is no driver that will turn that poor slug into a game-capable device for DA: O, sorry.

That doesn't really answer my question but thanks for being extremely helpful nonetheless...
