[Old Report] Change gamepad bindings on PC

Is there a way to change the gamepad bindings on PC?

In the game options, I can only change the bindings for mouse & keyboard, but not for a gamepad. When I'm using a gamepad, the bindings section is "Locked" (meaning there is a Locked symbol, and no way to access it)...My problem is when I'm trying to scan an area with the LS, the screen constantly moves between my party members as well since these functions both use the LS. Is there a way to "lock" the scan to make it automatic, or change the binding for this? In the meantime, I find that I have to change over to M&K just to scan an area, and it's a huge pain to constantly go back and forth between the game interaction methods.

thanks for answering my question...though it's not what I was hoping for...guess it's either go back an forth between M&K and gamepad, or suffer with the bad M&K controls for the entire game. Hope they come out with a fix for this!

  • This feels like a silly question. I use a wired Xbox controller to play, and the search function (press left stick) is wearing out the stick because I like to spam it... So I had the idea of changing the search function to either the left or right buttons on the directional pad since (as far as I know) they're not used for anything.

Whatever I would want to change it to, I would just like the option to change my controls around to whichever wonky set up fits me best. When I go to do this at the main menu in the Key Bindings section of Options, there is locked icon sitting next to it and I can't select it to change anything.

So. Am I doomed to making my left stick wobbly due to overuse? Or is there a way to change game pad controls without poking some ambiguous file hidden somewhere?

  • I remapped the Left stick to right arrow on the D pad on my xbox controller using Steam Controller Support. Changed the input of DPad right arrow to use the function of Left Stick if that makes sense

  • @joanndom I was able to do it. I know this is a decade old post, so yes I'm late to the party.

What I did was I used the Steam Controller support to do exactly what you were thinking of doing. I play on pc with my Xbox series X controller.
    1. Enable Steam Controller Input
    2. Click View Layout
    3. Select Directional Pad Layout
    4. Choose which Dpad button you want to configure
    5. and change its behavior to Left Stick Click
