I'm having the exact same problems as you man. Every 2 seconds the game just stops for 3-5 seconds, frozen in space and time. When I saw you mention that it sounds like your graphics card fans stop when it happens I decided to check on that myself, and lo and behold it does the same thing for me. The game is literally unplayable now with this new patch. I'm really frustrated.
P.S. - Can I also add that playing the game with Mantle is impossible for me because of the horrendous memory leak problems. Can't play the damn thing for more than 10 minutes before Windows tells me my system is out of memory. Blegh.
