Prior to today's patch, the hitching was annoying, but the game was playable. Now, the game randomly pauses for about 3 seconds every few seconds. It does this at the title screen, while playing, in conversation, even in menus. When the pause happens, it sounds like the fan on my video card stops or slows down. I tried other games, and none are exhibiting this behavior. The game is not even playable for me, in its current state.

possible fix which i uncovered myself as I was suffering from terrible freeze and cpu usage 100% issue. cleanmem and ccleaner+clear origin cache+clean boot do not work for me.
seeing that disabling intel rapid storage technology in msconfig/services is a possible fix, I went to hunt for it but did not find it, I find a range of other services running under intel corp and it turns out disabling most of them did the trick, my cpu usage back to normal....40+ to 60+% usage and stuttering/freeze is gone.
the services I disabled under msconfig-services are : Intel(R) Capability Licensing Service Interface, Intel(R) Dynamic Application Loader Host Interface, Intel(R) Management and Security Application Local Management Service, Intel Small Business Advantage and Intel Smart Connect Technology Agent. I left Intel(R) Integrated Clock Controller Service-Intel(R) ICCS running coz I am afraid it'll mess up my clock in windows somehow.
I hope temp fix before a hotfix/patch helps u guys
I did the thing EA_David suggested, with the cleaner and the origin purging and after the game finished downloading again, the performance is even worse.
The game on release: about 50 fps, some stuttering (settings on high/ultra)
After patches: I'd say about 15, with major stuttering, sometimes freezes up to 20 seconds. (graphics on low, medium, high doesn't make any difference at all)
After CCleaner and all that: Major stuttering and lag in the game's main menu, game frozen 90% of the time, with short 5-10 second bursts of functionality.
The only thing that has done any good for me after the patch (and that only worked once, temporarily, for about 90 minutes until the game crashed, and it hasn't worked since) was to put all the graphic settings on max (decided to try that on a whim, since it worked on Age of Conan when that was released). The game worked almost as good as pre patch for those 90 minutes.
I get that this is complicated stuff to work out a solution for, but why then force the patch on those of us for whom the game was working great?

I've looked at those under my services and apparently they're already disabled :/
Also as for the Intel(R) Integrated Clock Controller Service I don't even have it under my services and my windows clock is still working if that helps.
Just wondering has anyone actually found a fix for this ever since the patch on the 9th i cant even play it cuz the stuttering is so bad where before I was fine and i have tried talking to tech support but i can never get through. You would think with this many people having the problem the would at least address it.
So after 2 days of not being able to play, I finally got the game up and running again. The solution was easy for me, but you must have a backup download of the game stored somewhere prior to the patch.
1) I got my backup done several days before installing the patch (thank god ugh) and forgot about it until now.
2) I uninstalled the game, went to the Application Settings in Origin to disable Origin Helper (in the Advanced tab) and uncheck the box "Automatically keep my games up to date" (in the General tab).
3) Downloaded the game again and let it run for a bit to establish the folder in Origin Games.
4) C&p my backup to that folder.
5) Origin told me there was an update available and I laughed in its face.
6) Launched game, played like normal.
can you specify what exactly you copied and pasted?
Sorry it probably sounds a bit confusing. I copied everything in the backup folder. Thing is, my desktop's wifi adapter is **bleep** so I had to download the game completely on my laptop and then transfer the whole Dragon Age Inquisition game folder to my desktop. After that, I copied and pasted the game folder in my desktop to a portable hard drive for safekeeping. All of this happened before the patch installation, that's why I have 2 old copies of the whole game folder.
Do you happen to have an old copy as well? Just remember that after you uninstall the game on your computer, the Dragon Age Inquisition folder will be automatically deleted. Important: you have to go to application settings in Origin and uncheck the "automatically update your games" box. After that, just let Origin download a few MBs of the game so it can create the game directory, then close down Origin, then overwrite everything in the new game directory with the contents in your backup folder. When you run Origin again, the download will resume and shoot up all the way to 100%, or possibly just download a few more MBs. Play like usual, and ignore the update.

I managed to solve my stuttering with windows task manager. I just wathced my notebooks processor performance with and without DA:I running in windowed mode, I discovered something must be wrong because cpu usage without any program running was 25% and with DA:I the usage was
97 -100%. I clicked on the processes tab, ... I saw nothing unusual, but then I discovered an option in the lower left corner (show all users processes) and then I was surprised. Windows Media Player online sharing ran in the background eating up almost 25% processing power and something like 2GB of ram. I disabled the process structure immediately (when DA:I run in the background!!!) and then DA:I started to run perfectly smooth and cpu usage went back to 75 - 80% and stayed that way until I played the game. (I hope it will stay that way. I dont have time now to test it properly with Windows restarts, etc.. 😕mileyfrustrated: )
