[PC] Cullen bug post Haven

Post Haven, it is not possible to finish the first conversation with Cullen in Skyhold's courtyard.
Attempting to do so will trigger his sequence but without any animations or dialogue wheel (black screen with audio in the background only).
That is, it is possible to initiate the conversation but as soon as Cullen gives orders to the other two NPCs that stand beside him and makes a sad remark about Haven's fate, the player cannot respond so the dialogue is stuck.
During this whole process the Inquisition loading symbol keeps blinking in the lower right corner of the screen to no avail.
Tested with version 1.0.0.12. Restarting, repairing or reinstalling the game do not help as of the writing of this entry.
Changing Skyhold customizations has no effect on the outcome.
Approaching Cullen from different directions does not help either.
All single- and multiplayer DLCs released to date are installed.

PC indeed. Never installed any mods for any of Bioware's games. DxDiag output attached

I managed to bypass the issue by talking to Cullen while running the game in windowed mode.

The same happens at the end of some judgment sessions as well. Not all of them though.

Windowed mode does not help for those however.

Reloading an earlier save and going through the sequence by skipping some of the dialogue does.

  • @Avanglion I'm assuming you're on PC? It might help us to take a look at your dxdiag (can find instructions on generating and posting one in the spoilered section of this sticky).

Are you using any mods? Anything else that could be relevant?

  • This is marked as solved but I don't see a solution. Five years later I'm having the exact same bug. Any one know a solution?

The solution was in the post, more a work around but still what got the player past the issue.

For Cullen issue, they played in windowed mode, and for the end of the trials they reloaded last save and tried again skipping cutscenes.

  • Just had this exact issue (love a good bug that hasn't been fixed after how many years?) -- thought I'd share that doing the "Look for Cole" dialogue before talking to Cullen worked for me, just in case anyone comes across this again. I didn't try windowed mode personally, but this fixed it as well.

  • I was able to fix this by doing windowed mode and running DAI in compatibility mode for Windows 7. If you right click the DAI shortcut, go to properties, compatibility, there is a drop down to set it to Windows 7.

  • I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with Dragon Age: Inquisition, please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
