[PC] DA:I ''Download in queue'' issue

Dear EA & community,

been excited to download and play Dragon Age Inquisition, however my machine somehow blocks Origin from downloading the game.
I'd be very thankful for any advice on how to fix this.

I don't have any other games on Origin to test if downloading those would work. Everything else (e.g Steam downloads) works perfectly fine.

Environment:
- Windows 7 Professional

- Avast Premier

Troubleshooting performed:

- run Origin as admin
- reinstall Origin with run as admin

- delete Origin related folders (ProgramData, %appdata%, %localappdata%) (and then re-download and reinstall Origin as admin)
- stop Avast (via icon, also tried by killing all processes via taskmgr)

- add Origin folder to exclusion list in Avast

- modify UAC to lowest level / highest level (and reinstall Origin as admin)

- clean boot (and reinstall Origin as admin)

- safe boot (no reinstall, just a try to install DA:I)

After all this I am quite desperate already for something that would fix it.

If any logs / dxdiag / sysinfo would help, I'd post them later.

Thanks for any reply!

Thank you for the tip - it sadly did not work (my hopes were disappointed).

On the desktop PC where this issue is present I am unable to download any game.

I have attempted the workaround - downloaded the files on the other machine (laptop), launched the game (success). Copied the files over to the desktop PC, tried launching the game... see attached error. ''Right-click -> Locate Game'' gives a state of: Repair in Queue and deletes the files in the folder, where I put them (C:/program files (x86)/origin games/dragon age inquisition) (exact same folder path as on the other machine). As an UAC prompt came when trying to move files there, I also created the folder C:/Origin Games/Dragon Age Inquisition, where no UAC prompt came when copying the files.

Not able to launch the game - Origin opens and says that it cannot find path to the folder.

When I set the Installed games path via Application settings - all seems good. When I try to launch the game, same error as above.

When I try to Locate Game -> state goes to Repair in Queue and deletes the files.

ClientLog shows a few interesting lines when the repair is initiated when trying to Locate Game - it seems as if some packets are either not being received or sent.

    The issue has been solved!

I have installed Wireshark to trace the packets which go to and from my desktop. Performed the same on the laptop. Ran the installation and compared the two files.

Certain packets addressed to some service (I was unable to identify which one) were being stopped on the desktop, which went through on the laptop. (I do know some basic networking, reading packets via Wireshark and trying to make sense of that is too advanced to me though)

I went and enabled ALL the services on my computer via msconfig and rebooting in normal boot mode.

Went to install DA:I -> installation starts without any issues.

Now to see if I'll be able to launch the game...

Thank you all for all the inputs and apologies for not being able to share exact solution details.

Thanks for the reply and the detailed instructions.

    - deleted files in %temp%

    - deleted Origin cache in %programdata%; %appdata%; %localappdata%

    - uninstalled Origin ''the hard way''

    - installed Origin via the link provided via run as admin

Issue still persists... ''Download in queue'' when attempting to install a game.

Note: installing it on another machine on the same network works without any issues.

  • Maybe @holger1405 may not agree, but what about creating a new Admin profile on the computer, which if I understand it would basically be creating a new blank slate computer.  This way if it downloads then it is definitely something program, registry or setting related, but if it stalls, then it is driver or hardware issue.  This is at least my understanding of the way it would work.  Because from what I can see of this thread and the latest DIAG attempts Holger is looking to find out why this specific computer has an issue.  Holger maybe can correct my interpertation of this but I think this would settle some of the questions..??  maybe??

P.S.:  If this is total bs...then blame it on me having the FLU and running a fever....cause yeah

No, don't disagree at all. 🙂 Would be the next step on my list as well.

(It does not create a fresh Windows installation, but it does creates a clean account and therefore rules out errors in the existing User account.

    @MaDDcz Did you contacted EA?

Many thanks for the inputs and apologies for not following it up earlier - had various things keeping me busy.

I have created a new Administrator user profile, uninstalled Origin, installed it anew under the new Admin user profile - tried to download - no success.

I have then uninstalled Origin, plugged in another HDD, installed Origin onto that drive and attempted to download (both into default location on that HDD's Program Files - Origin Games folder and into a self-created, full permissions for everyone folder under E:/, and also trying the same on the C:/ drive) - no success.

My normal drive is an SSD - the C:/

The additional drive is an HDD - the E:/

The state is still Download in queue (when trying to download) / Paused (with the option Cancel Repair when not aborting and reopening Origin)

I've contacted EA, they have had me try some additional troubleshooting, none of it helped however. I'll be reaching out to them again to follow this up, as I really cannot find of anything, that could fix this. Would be nice to atleast find out what the actual cause of this is...

  • After having multiple chats with EA today, I kept being referred to the Connection troubleshooting articles. I've already performed most of these steps 3 weeks back when I first experienced this issue, however after being urged by the Support team multiple times, gave it another go.

    Main references:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/connection-issues-with-origin/
    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/connection-troubleshooting-advanced-pc/
    https://help.ea.com/en-in/help/origin/origin/my-game-downloaded-through-origin-but-will-not-install/

Below a summary of actions performed:

    - try to download a different game

    - clean cache (IE, computer, Origin)

    - reinstall (multiple times in multiple locations)

    - run Origin as admin

    - run Origin in compatibility modes (various)

    - clean boot

    - safe mode with networking boot

    - ipconfig /flushdns and /release and /renew (running cmd as admin)

    - unchecking IPv6 in adapter settings (leaving only IPv4 checked)

    - setting DNS to google DNS

    - ''Enabling UPnP'' both on PC and router

    - opening ports on router

    - setting exception in Avast

    - uninstalling Avast (and disabling Windows defender / Firewall)

    - uninstalled AdBlock Plus

    - setting SafeMode downloading to ON in Origin

    - trying it on a different machine (it worked there, only my machine is affected)

    - setting UAC slider to top and also bottom

    - creating a new Admin user account

No improvement. The download does not start, ''download in queue'' or ''paused'' when reopening Origin.

  • Open up your networking adapter properties and check to see what is available as far as protocols..and compare them to your work laptop that can download the info.

Make sure your TCP/IPv4 and 6 are all enabled, as well as others there.... wondering if something got turned off at a point by AV or Firewall, and hasn't ever been turned back on when needed.

Also check the status page and make sure it lists, IPv4 Internet and IPv8 internet, plus media state enabled on that page.  You should also be able to compare it to you work laptop as it does work.

Also make sure it knows that your network is private and not a public network, since it will restrict stuff on public settings.

Thank you for your reply. I've had a quite extensive troubleshooting session yesterday with a few helpful EA support agents.

I have tried fiddling with the network adapter (enabling only IPv4, enabling both IPv4 and IPv6), even uninstalled and reinstalled the network driver completely - no difference.

I was advised to reinstall my GPU driver (performed - no improvement) and to run the System File Checker, as per below links:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947821
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

However, the SFC found nothing (attached screenshot of the result.). The next step thus would be a reinstallation of Windows (as I have been told by EA support).

This comes as quite a dissapointment. Was kind of expecting someone technically knowledgable (level 3 support) about Origin to have a look at the log and be able to identify the issue instead of going over to a reimage solution.

I will not have the time to reinstall Windows the coming two weeks, I will have time on the weekend the 9. and 10. February. So unless any additional measures (ones that identify and address the issue) are provided, I will be going forward with the fresh Windows installation.

Did the download of other games worked?

The problem is that the log shows us that there is some kind of connection or access error, but not where this error is.

As a workaround, you could download the game to your Laptop and then transfer the files to your PC.
