[PC] DA:O crashes almost immediately after loading

I recently got a new computer. On my old one I could play DA:O with no issue through the EA desktop app. However, now on my new computer, once the game finishes loading, I can maybe walk around for about a second or two, then the game crashes.

I have checked all of these steps to try to get it to work, and nothing seems to be sticking.

1: Check for Windows Updates

2: Update the Graphics Card Driver

3: Lower In-Game Video Settings

4: Set the Affinity of the Game

5: Run the Game with DirectX9

Any help would be appreciated.

  • @Mason_Scott92 Thank you for uploading that file. I took a look at the one and right off the bat, the file shows the following errors:

    1. APPCRASH with daorigins.exe: This indicates the game "Dragon Age: Origins" has crashed. The fault module is dxilconv.dll, which is a DirectX file.

    This is related to your GPU drivers and DirectX drivers

    2. RADAR_PRE_LEAK_WOW64 with daorigins.exe: This is a memory leak warning, which is related to your GPU drivers

    3. APPCRASH with utweb.exe: This is the μTorrent Web client. The faulting module is ntdll.dll, which is a Microsoft Windows file. This program has a lot of viruses because it is a torrent. You don't know what files are actually being downloaded and sadly beyond our help because it is a torrent.

    4. CLR20r3: This is an error with the .NET Framework

    You have multiple issues going on here with Windows, possible viruses, and missing DLL files. Along with some GPU issues, the following are the best places to start. You may have performed some but they are still showing as issues.

    Delete Windows Temp Files

    • First, make sure you close as many programs as you can
    • Press the Windows key + R, go into the file explorer
    • Type in %temp%, and hit Enter
    • Delete everything it allows you to delete
    • Reboot the PC

    Optional Registry clean-up

    • install CCleaner (it's free) from here
    • Run Registry cleaner
    • Click review selected issues
    • Do you want to back up? No
    • Click Fix all selected issues

    @Mason_Scott92 Hi,

    I'm gonna build on the issues @EA_Shepard noticed in the dxdiag.

    First of I seem to recall an issue where you need to install the directx version specific to the game, that might be part of the issue with the missing dll thing.
    For that, the easiest way is to access the game's folder then go to "_installer" folder then "directx" folder then "redist" folder. Here you should find plenty of files. Find the "DXSETUP.exe" and simply launch it. It'll install the needed files

    DAO is known for its memory leaks issues. You should be able to find a 4GB patch out there to patch the game's exe. Nexusmod has a file for the Steam version for example (dunno if it'd work for EA App but don't see why not maybe look through).
    Though those trouble usually manifest with infinite loading and/or a crash when loading between maps from what I know

    @Mason_Scott92 I would update or reinstall the above. The games ran off very different updates back then and don't always play nice with the newer versions of DirectX or .NET etc.

    @Mason_Scott92

    Doing some follow-ups on these issues. As we've not heard back from you in a while, we're hoping that means the game has been working for you and you no longer need assistance. we'll close out this thread here.

    If you continue to have issues with the game, please start a new thread, or tack onto an existing one!

    Thanks for your post, and safe travels across Thedas!

    Cheers!

    @scmason

    According to your profile this is your first post on AHQ, did you posted under a different account before?

    Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.
