[PC] Low FPS fix? Check this Processor Scheduling setting

I've been following all the PC troubleshooting and I've yet to see this option. I just stumbled onto it myself and wanted to see if anyone else could benefit. It is worth checking to see if it makes a difference for any low FPS or poor performance you might get.

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Select "System"
  3. Click "Advanced System Settings"
  4. Under the "Performance" section, click the "Settings..." button.
  5. Click the "Advanced" tab.
  6. Under "Processor scheduling" section, make sure the radio button for "Adjust for best performance of:" has the "Programs" selected.

For some reason, mine was clicked to "Background services". Since I moved it over to "Programs" I'm getting better performance. I don't know how or why this got set to Background services on my PC, so you might make sure yours is set properly.

Note: I still get the phantom CTDs, but my FPS is back to a playable level. It may not fix all problems, but hopefully it will help. Please post your results as it may help others.

    Well I did this and my game got to about 50 FPS for a while where that duration was like 2 mins tops and then steadily dropped to 30 FPS and then back again to 15-20FPS mark. So don't know how I feel about this even though I'm grateful for the solution.

    I understand. I'm sorry it didn't help.

    I don't expect this to be a magic bullet. There are major optimization issues with this game which, I feel, can only be fixed with patches and better codiing. Still, I've been looking to squeeze out every ounce of PC performance to at least make the game passable.

    The issue I had was a suddend drop down to 5 fps in the opening menu with (supposedly) no changes in my system. I poked around for a week trying to see what could cause this issue. It wasn't GPU related. This change seemed to get it back to a usable 30 fps for me. Maybe this could help others with similar issues.

    Another thing that I've found on Internet was gametime.maxvariablefps 30 which set the fps to fixed 30 FPS now I haven't done extensive testing or went into big combats but it seemed to hold its own around 30 FPS mark pretty much always so give it a try as well.

    Good point. I've done that to limit my FPS to 30 and it seems to help on my lowly system to make the game marginally playable.

    On a side note, people can try some settings like the one you mentioned in a user.cfg file. Here are the steps to make one and below are some things to put in it to try to adjust some settings that may not be available in the game menus.

    1. Go to your game install folder. It is usually in a location like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition". Or if you have a shortcut on your desktop, right click it, select "Properties" and in the "Shortcut" tab click the "Open File Location" button.
    2. Right click in the folder and select "New->Rich Text Document" or whatever/however you want to use to create a new, plain text file in this location. 
    3. Name the file user.cfg (I don't know if it is case sensitive. I use all lower case.)
    4. Save any commands in there you like.
    5. If you ever want to disable this file, just delete it or rename it to something like user.cfg.old

    Here are some commands I have tested in mine. I've picked these up from other posts and articles. I don't use all of them anymore, but try them on yours to see what helps. These settings either turn them off or put them at their minimum. I don't have any documentation on these commands, but google could turn up some info, I'm sure. Some may help or make things worse.
