Thanks for all the useful advice; I've reduce the graphics quality, that has done the trick so far. If it reverts to behaving badly again I'll try the next fix on the list.

There are not enough thanks I could give for this information, it is greatly appreciated in stopping me from punching a hole in my screen and rig respectively trying to fix the issues I've had. Of course now I shall awake each morning eager to see if theres a fix buuuuut still many many thanks.
