Defragging only the game folder for non SSD:
Contig: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897428.aspx
PowerDeframenter Frontend for Contig: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Power-Defragmenter.shtml
Run PowerDefragmenter and select Folder defrag and point it to the DAI game folder.
This requires your HD not to be full but have plenty of non interrupted space for it to move the files to.
Ever since I disabled Afterburner's On-Screen Display (I used to monitor GPU temperature and framerate), my game doesn't crash anymore. The same with Battlefield 4. Also, I installed Windows 8.1 x64 recently and it seems both games runs better than in Windows 7 x64.

you can still use afterburner, just disable or uninstall the RTSS portion of it. (RivaTunerStatisticsServer)
I use the graphing portion of AB and have that on a different screen, to monitor temps and usage,
rather than using the overlay function of RTSS.
