Thank you for posting about your fix, hopefully it's helpful for others. Can I check if you've ever had a different DAO install on this system, either the Steam version or the old pre-Origin standalone edition?

I have not owned a previous version of the game. The only version I own is the one supplied by Origin. Hopefully no one else has to struggle with this problem, but I figured I should at least document the solution that was working for me.
