The problem is not on our end here, flushing the dns won't work. Whenever I restart the download it seems to start normally, but then it regresses again. When it regresses it's because one of the .cas files gets deleted. It doesn't matter how many times I try to replace it, it gets deleted again, unless I change the permissions. And even so the download bar still regresses.
It's an Origin problem and we probably have no power to fix it ourselves, all these "solutions" are just ways to work around it.
Calling them "solutions" though is an insult to real solutions, if there is any benefit from doing them then it is pretty much thanks to a successful hail mary pass (many people have tried similar solutions to no avail).
Either the Origin client, or the Origin server(s), or both is faulty in some way because they should be fault tolerant in the case of communication errors.
If there are DNS resolution issues, they should exhibit more serious problems such as not being able to initiate downloads in the first place because they can not find the server(s).
If the order of magnitude of latency in resolving the internet names via DNS is a factor then it still comes down to the client software being faulty as it should be tolerant of such problems.
How ever you cut it, it boils down to the Origin service being faulty and the software supporting it (or server configuration) should be updated as appropriate to ensure the service delivered to us is good enough.
