@Kawaru808: Tried your suggested procedure - basicallly pausing, shutting down Origin, and restarting it about every 4-5% progress - but in the 4th run it regressed to ~4% (after reaching ~14%). This is just another hail mary option really...
@EA: The game is released, I should be able to download it via your system and I can't because of this issue.
This issue has persisted for a while yet your organisation does not seem to admit there is a problem with your system/client software. It does not just affect this game but other titles as well. You have a duty of care to resolve this issue and from our perspective you seem to be not dealing with the problem with the appropriate level of urgency and do not appear to be giving it due recognition.
As an experienced software engineer I have a degree of sympathy and understanding for the situation you are in BUT as a customer I am massively annoyed especially since this issue has been around for a while with no apparent acknowledgement that there is a problem with an anticipated timescale for resolution (or at least progress update).
I know how hard it can be to monitor and report progress for these kind of issues but the severity of the problem affects delivery of your goods to your customers. Given this we should by rights be kept regularly informed of "official" progress/status/planning wrt this issue.
Just got off-line with Customer support who suggested participating in the Origin client beta programme effectively.
In the Origin client app menu: Origin --> Application Settings
Then ensure the check box in the Origin Beta Participation section is ticked.
Then restart the client to get the update.
Fingers crossed.
Update: Not a solution as of Fr-21-Nov-2014 @ 14:18 GMT

I gave that a try a couple of days ago and have been on the beta client since and it didn't change anything for me.

Got cut off from support after trying to explain that we KNOW the usual antivirus/firewall/DNS/<other-usual-red-herring> is not at fault. EA seem to be having ALOT of technical difficulties.
Got back on-line, company line summed up: It is known, being worked on, and will be delivered at some point.
Essentially, the usual non-answer for things being worked on and given the fact it has been going on for so long such patter/stock answers are unacceptable for an issu of this severity.

I finally gave up on trying to get the digital download fixed. I caved and bought a physical copy of the game for PC, and had no problems installing. Got the game up and running in under an hour, and there wasn't any issue with Origin thinking I had two copies of the game. Also, others on this forum have said that even with the physical copy you need to download a hefty portion of the game through Origin anyway. I did not encounter or notice that when I installed it last night.
I'll be fighting with Green Man Games for a refund or store credit or something in order to get my money back for the digital copy. Best of luck to everyone else whose game was held hostage.
