This is all well and good, but unfortunately this doesn't fly when the game has been sitting on my HDD for weeks. However, I did replace my HDD, and have not played since that new installation.
Reinstalling the entire game only really made things worse as it no longer recognises any gamesave to 'Continue'. Attempting to Load a gamesave still returns that damned message though.
The only thing I have not done is to 'Wait a couple of days', which solved the issue for another user with this problem. Apparently, the DA-I servers 're-recognised' the save - or something. I am in the process of waiting a couple of days.
Has EA responded to this game-breaking issue in any helpful way, or have the buckets of sand been distributed to stick their heads in?

Right. I have not so much as solved the problem, but just worked around it.
Luckily, I had some gamesaves archived on my PC, as a backup, one of which was a file from a while BEFORE I replaced my HDD.
I copied this across and lo and behold, DA-I at last decided to acknowledge my gamesave! All of my 103 hours of gameplay completely intact.
I then performed a manual save, just in case, and all seems good, thanks in NO part to EA and Bioware - or Sony, I really don't know where the blame lies, but it certainly wasn't me, as I'm never wrong.
However, this still doesn't explain why it ignored both the USB and PS Plus saves, which were exact clones of the file that I retrieved from my PC, exactly the same playtime down to the second. Ahh well.
