Re: Cassandra & Iron Bull not using health potions

There are a couple of things I've seen affect potion use, but first let me make sure I understand what you've tested:

- You've switched up the % they're supposed to use them at, especially to obvious ones like "50%" so it's clear on the bar

- You've had all 12 potions and made sure the "don't use if we have less than X potions left" is far below that

If both of these are the case, then it might be they are spamming abilities too often.  How are their Tactics set?  If you have too many Preferred abilities, they can prioritize using them over stopping for a potion; it doesn't seem that checking for the health % and drinking a pot is an interrupt or top priority.

Another thing is, are they getting knocked around a lot?  The "drinking" action takes a second to activate and complete.  If they start to drink one and get interrupted, the AI seems to respond more to that than to the health %, such as Payback Strike, and if they are knocked down they can't do anything at all.

Try turning off ALL "preferred" actions, just as a test.  I have 1-2 on most toons, no more; one might have 3, but not the tank.  I have also disabled some of the long-cast or high-stamina abilities and do that manually.

Lastly, what is your stamina reserve set to?  On most toons, I have it currently at 0, but those toons don't have more than 2 "preferred" abilities.  I think if you have a lot of preferred and a low stamina reserve, they may just be spamming their little hearts out.  Combine this with melee getting knocked down or smacked around and lot, and that makes it harder.

    Yes I have.

I've never really thought it could be that so I haven't really changed their tactics. I think they tend to use all the skills except for the focus ones.

As far as I can tell they don't get knocked around that much and they don't really use skills like payback strike. I've watched them while they weren't knocked down (sometimes even right after everything was dead) and they just don't pot even when they have like 5 hp left lol.

I don't have any skills on preferred just enabled. I've not really looked at high stamina or long cast abilities but I'll see if that works.

I've not looked at this either tbh. It's all on a standard 50%.

Looks like you covered everything.  Sorry I wasn't a help.  I'm not sure what could break two specific companions and no others, that's very odd.  If it was happening to me, only thing I could think of to try next would be replacing, or removing, all their gear.  I can't imagine why any piece of gear would break that behavior, but you never know for certain how code's going to interact in a large program until it happens.

After that, I'd be flailing around in the dark: talk to them at Skyhold and advance the convos, bring them out in different combinations of other party members.  Anything that affects them that might "unstick" them.

  • Well thanks for trying anyway. It seems I have managed to break Solas too now, he doesn't want to heal now either lol. I think it may have happened after I changed his pots to all, not too sure. I've tried advancing in quests, changing their gear and even reinstalling the game but nothing seems to work. So meh. This is like my 10th playthrough but my first on nightmare so the pots thing is kind of yeah...
