Re: DAO Launcher launches but won't launch game.
Part of my brief chat with Origin support -
Kristoffer - Thanks for contacting EA Customer Experience, my name is Kristoffer Allen. How may I assist you today?
you - Hi there
Kristoffer - Hello there
Kristoffer - How may I help you?
you - I have an issue with Dragonage Origins
you - I have purchsed DAO Ultimate on Steam
you - downloaded and installed fine
you - launcher works fine
you - but the play button on the launcher gives me nothing
you - the launcher simply closes and nothing happens
Kristoffer - I see. Well to be honest with you we do not have training on how to navigate via Steam as they are a different
company. I am also sure why your game is not launching via Origin. However what I can do here is to help you
register the game In Origin so we can provide you some steps that will let it run Via Origin.
Kristoffer - If you wish to play the game Via Steam that will befine however, You may need to contact them for assistance.
OK so the solution is to Login to an Origin account, add the keys to Origin, repair the game from origin, the game seems to use and patch itself from the Steam version that already exists if you have installed it via Steam (it patched about 5Gb for me using 19Gb of Steams already installed 24Gb. You can then launch it from Origin but only Origin, the game won't launch from Steam at all.
I guess Steam really need to start listing thrid party launch apps under System Requirements, the same way they list base games as required for DLC to work. Or does EA need to vet what they're selling on Steam better and check the way it's advertised and promoted so that customers know what they're buying and what they will need to run it?
Or is this is all working as intended; EA trying to push people from Steam to Origin and pretending it's a problem with the Steam platform and not something that's been engineered in house?
I hate having my time wasted.
