Re: DLC Won't Install Because DA2 Not Installed on C:\

Hey there,

I was frustrated too, but if you are registered at Bioware with your origin account and have registered the game you should be able to find the DLCs if you go to

1.) Origin -> DA2 click with left mouse -> Game details  (I don't know how it says in the menu because my language setting is not english, but it should be something like that)

2.) At the bottom you should be able to see the  DLCs and extra content for DA2. The ones you already bought should be available and apparently can be downloaded directly!

I hope this works for you as well 🙂

Thank you so much for this tip! :D It worked! Merci!

  • This worked, whereas the other suggestions produced no positive result.

  • I went through this too.  Read all the posts, nothing worked.  Kept getting DA II was running or DA II was not installed.  No middle ground. Then by accident, I tried the DA II config noted here again, but this time I saved the Dragon Age II settings.  Didn't realize that was even an option!  DLC downloaded first time I tried it.  You do not need to put the .exe file in your dragon age folders. I have a separate download file for ALL downloads so I can virus check them.  Just make sure your path when the DLC launcher (i.e. Confirm Installation Directory) opens is correct.  My location  C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age II.  If you are using steam version, you would go to the steammaps folder.  Everything is EA (ergo Origin) you have to work through those paths.  You don't put it in the documents BIOWARE folder. Not sure if you ever did.  When you start the game, click on the downloadable content and you should see your DLC in the list.  Mine shows indented with an * first to separate it from the extras that came with my original game download from Origin.   I can't believe it was as simple as saving my DA II settings in that config.exe thing!!  Anyway, my DLC is working now so I'm off to play..hope this helps someone?  ..cya

So, only work through the Origin Games folder in whatever drive you have the game installed.

Open Dragon Age II - bin ship

    launch DragonAge2Config.exe

Click on Dragon Age II in the header (to the right of the File -save report/exit- choice)

Click on Save Dragon Age II Settings.

    Worked for me!

I attached a pic of the config thing so you can see what I'm talking about.

Bioware made the dlc for Origins and DA2 free this year (https://help.ea.com/en-au/help/origin/origin/download-dlc-for-classic-origin-games/), which made me replay the games again.

I've succesfully been able to play all the Origins dlc, but I can't seem to get any of the DA2 dlc to work. I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that I play DA2 through Origin, which I don't have to do with Origins. That said, I've tried everything I could online. I solved the 'unauthorized dlc' problem, by changing RequiresAuthorization="1" to RequiresAuthorization="0". When I open the game the dlc that I didn't have (Legacy, Mark of the Assassin...) is listed in the same order as the dlc that I already had (Black Emporium), but I'm not able to play it (no statues at Hawke's home).

I've saved the Dragon Age II settings through DragonAge2Config.exe, but alas. Again, I'm guessing Origin is at fault here, because when I open the Origin client and look at the Extra Content tab, the big dlc packs are still listed with BioWare points (aka I need to buy them).

Has anyone been able to succefully install the dlc they released?

  • The DA2 DLC isn't available for "Free".  It's available to download and install, but will only work if you purchased it and it's already associated with ("authorized under") your EA account. authorized within your game, just not present on your machine.

That said, here's the site where you can get it without "BioWare  Points":

Download DLC for Classic Origin Games

[EDIT:  Fixed incorrect description of when this page can help.]

If you go into the Origin store, either app or website, choose browse games and the rpg tab it will display all rpg games and their dlc bundles, which will allow you to purchase the dlc bundle to unlock all these in your game.  For whatever reason they aren't listing the dlc bundles inside the game pages and this is causing issues.

Like Thandal said, that site is not about giving the dlc away, but instead it is to just allow people who aren't using Origin and instead still use the disk version of the game, to be able to download and install previously paid for dlc.

If you are on USA/English Origin, you should be able to use this link to see the DA2 dlc bundle:  https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/dragon-age/dragon-age-ii/addon/dragon-age-ii-dlc-bundle

The steps I listed above though will take you there if the link doesn't work for you in all other cases provided the languages is supported by the dlc.

There has been pretty consistent misunderstanding of that DLC page about it being free, and many people are continuing to say it is, when that is wrong.  This is half on EA for the way it is posted up, and half on people for not reading that page as close as they should.   They should post it up in big letters that this page is for the download and install of previously paid for legacy dlc, and all new dlc purchases should be handled through Origin....but it is what it is....

gah! thank you for explaining this!! i'd been told multiple times that the DLC was "free" and now i figured out what the problem was. and now to decide if i want to bother buying MotA after all this BS run-around thinking i already had it because they let me download the files. wte-l-f.

at least i finally have my dog, since Black Emporium actually *is* _free_.
