I registered DA2 on Origin but it also installes the game on patch 1.04, is there a way to manually patch it or do I have to talk to the guys in origin?

You might have to talk to them then... ☹️   I know when I installed it last to fix this issue it didn't install 1.04, but they may have updated Origin's default installation since then.

Is that the base install that installed 1.04, or did you install it, then go to "Update game" because you cant let it UPDATE I know that...

I just double-checked my install, and I have 1.03.  I also have the 1.03 patch file on my external HD for backup.

well to be honest, this is a really annoying bug but I just finished the game... I just don't wanna talk to tech support and it's not that important to the story.

maybe I'll do it for the next playthrough so thanks for the help

@tyrium88;  I will have to experiment with this, (I have the more minor endless "loading..." message glitch with "The Exiled Prince".)

But CONGRATULATIONS for finding a workaround for this issue!  It's been a real puzzler.

Ursula, is there any chance that when QA finds a solution they'll turn it into an official patch? My guess is no, but one can dream, right?

Thanks for this latest idea to fix it, and yes I too would like to know if there is ANY chance of us actually getting an official fix?

EDIT: Just wanted to chime in that this workaround DID work for me... I removed the patch folder as instructed right before running Repentence... and got NO problems whatsoever.

For the moment the QA team is still trying to reproduce the issue. You may get the impression that everyone has this issue as several people post about it, but obviously that's not the case (I never had it too - but then, I'm super lucky with games and rarely see a bug at all).

I'll let you know when I get more information.

Thanks for keeping us informed and thank them for continuing to work on this! I think most of us had pretty much given up hope of ever seeing this actually fixed, and I know in my case I just accepted that I'd never play with the Legacy fixes. 🙂

I followed the instructions listed and still get the freeze ☹️

I am playing through Origin (NOT on purpose - I got duped with ME3 and it swallowed my DAII files; grrrr) so is there maybe a secondary copy of the folder somewhere that I have missed?

Hmmm maybe since you downloaded it as full 1.04 you might try downloading and reinstalling Exiled Prince? Not really sure... ☹️

Also, I downloaded and installed DA2 from Origin myself (though I did orginally purchase the disc, just entered my code in Origin to unlock the download to bypass the CD in the drive requirement).   I don't run through Origin unless I choose to take advantage of the "Cloud Saves" feature, which I'm not doing at this time.  So, maybe you just need to restore your shortcuts?  In the DAII program folder you should have a file called "da2launcher.exe" which SHOULD allow you to bypass Origin.

Thanks for this tyrium88. I had to scratch my Dragon Age itch and reinstalled DA2 on my Win8 system. Unfortunately I came across this issue in the "faith" quest. Your fix worked for me. Much appreciated.

One should  also  give  a  work around  for people using  windows 7.

I use Windows 7 and the delete the Legacy patch folder then put it back works.

So, any updates? Has the QA team had any luck in reproducing this bug?

Something I thought of trying is backing up my saves then completely deleting the game and all files for it, then reinstalling from fresh downloads.   Anyone actually tried this yet?

EDIT: Okay, I did go ahead and try a complete reinstall of the entire game and fresh download of everything from Origin, and the bug remains. ☹️

I didn't look back through all the prior posts to see if you already answered this, but...

What kind of CPU and graphics card do you have?  I'm wondering if this is another AMD-related glitch, like the "black boxes for body models during parts of "Mission: Noveria" in Mass Effect turned out to be.

(Not that it's likely, since the work-around of removing the patch folders allows you to play this part of the story.  But every little bit of information helps to isolate the issue.)

Here is some of my video card DXDIAG info...  never had this problem prior to patch 1.04, even with Legacy under 1.03 which is why it's so weird to me.

I don't experience this issue myself, just the endless "Loading..." before the encounter with Lady Harimann during the "Repentance" quest in Act II.  Since [Esc] solves this, I haven't had to do anything else.

When you hit escape there, do you actually miss the first part of the conversation? Also, does it still do it at the end, and do you miss anything? I have never paid attention doing it twice to find out... and I'm not to Act III yet to see if I am still getting the game breaking glitch in "Faith" or not.
