You can purchase the game several different ways other than through Origin, including boxed copies at places like Walmart, Game Stop, etc.  I believe you can also purchase a "digital copy" i.e. just the redemption key - from several internet retailers.  After purchase, all you have to do is open Origin and on the Origin menu select Redeem Code in order to add it to your "My Games" tab.  At that point you can download and install the game from Origin, or If you have a box copy, you can install from disc and then use Origin to patch to the latest release version.
