Hi! I am not from EA, but I just had the same problem and managed to work it around.
Apparently once you die in In Your Heart Shall Burn, your ability wheel becomes unavailable for you to use and that's why Mark of the Rift won't work (or any other ability). To solve it, just load a previous state where your abilities should be working and it will make the wheel become "available" again.
Load your In Your Heart... save again and things should be working.
