remove mods?

I went all the way through DAO twice before discovering the magic (and sometimes curse) of mods. Once I got the hang of it, I went crazy and added way too many mods. Most would be easy enough to delete from the override file, but there's one series of mods (the ones I really want to get rid of) that appear to nest themselves elsewhere and I don't know what to do to get rid of them.

So, should I do a complete uninstall then reinstall DAO? Should I save certain folders to preserve certain world states I would like to like to carry on into Awakening and beyond?

The mods that come in a dazip package can be disabled from the 'downloadable content' menu inside the game. For instance, here's an installation with the official DLC 'The Stone Prisoner' and the unofficial mod 'Skip the Fade'. Just hit the checkbox to disable it. Note: Save files that rely on certain mods will not be accessible.
