Save data was created with a newer version of the game

Ok so I would like to start this off with:

Yes I have looked at other threads
No I don't have a single mod all that's been added to the game is what the DLC has given me.

Recently upgraded to a new computer and figured all would be ok because cloud save is a thing. Went to go back to one of my old saves because I finally got trespasser, went to click on the save and was greeted by the lovely message "This save data was created with a newer version of the game. Please download the latest patch and try again."

Well ok I thought time to google, did some reading and the only time I saw people with this problem they were using mods. I checked my version of the game through the package file and all it has in there is:
Name patch

Authoritative

Version 12

Ok I thought to myself, 90% sure I have the right version in there what now?

Haven't seen anyone else with this problem who didn't have mods so at this point I'm not sure what to do, I just want to be able to do trespasser on my old saves so my inquisitors can finally have their happy endings.

  • @TatsuDragneel; Ok, so you say you aren't using any mods.  But that error message indicates that the save you're trying to use was made while you had at least one installed.  (Or possibly a patch that is now not installed.)

In any case, if that's all that's wrong the fix is easy:

Open the file(s) "package.mft" with any ASCII text editor and increment the version number by 1.  Rinse-Repeat until your save loads.

[NOTE:  It may be hard to tell which of the (potentially) many "package.mft" files you'll need to adjust, but take things slow and you'll figure it out.]

Thank you that did work, though it's frustrating because I've never had anything mod related installed for inquisition. All I had to do was change the file from 12 to 13 in the end and their all working now.
