Specializations for the Inquisitor Quest Bug

I am playing as a rogue and upon obtaining the quest "specializations for the inquisitor" I recruited the trainers from the war table, the trainers appeared in Skyhold, I talked to all three of them, and then I selected the Assassin specialization.  Once I selected assassin, the quest updated and told me to find a book and collect some daggers and maybe one other thing.  I found a book on the top floor of the inn in Skyhold, and got a quest update at the time.  I did not proceed any further on the quest beyond this point.  

The problem is the game has now somehow reverted the state of this quest and tells me I need to speak to the trainers.  When I do, the assassin trainer responds to the effect that "he has already chosen the path yet he questions again, this is not a good sign", the other two trainers respond as they did when I talked to them for the very first time.  As a result, I am unable to proceed with the specialization quest as I am locked into a quest state from which I cannot advance.  

I am not sure when this bug appeared but I believe it may have occurred with the recent patch.  

I am playing on the PC version of the game.  If it matters, I am level 13 and approximately 45 hours into the game.  

Any assistance with this issue would be appreciated.
