Unplayable stuttering

I can launch the game, but the stuttering/FPS makes it unplayable.

Here's my specs:

Windows 7 64 Bit

Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5400 2.70 GHz

4096MB Ram

DX 11. Hardware is DX10 compatible only.

ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series

I've played BF3/BF4, I can play both on medium/low with normal FPS. Dragon Age Inquisition however, is totally unplayable. I also noticed that the game reaches almost 100% CPU Usage the moment I launch it.

Another thing I noticed is that the Graphics API is locked on DX11 and my hardware is DX10 compatible only. (Minimum requirements page says DX10 is minimum)

  • Here's what kinda happens when I play: for 3 seconds it runs smoothly, then starts freezing/stuttering. Game like freezes for 5 seconds then continues to run smoothly. Then after 3 seconds it happens again over and over..

We are all having major issues. Even people the exceed the minimum specs. It is something only a patch could really fix
  • This game is horribly unoptimized. I have a beast of a computer that can run any other game on highest settings just fine, but DA:I runs like complete meekrob - even after lowering many options and turning MSAA off. I constantly bounce between 30 fps and 60 fps for no apparent reason. It boggles my mind how a giant company like EA/Bioware could allow a game to be released in such a poor state, but rest assured, people who spend money on a product don't soon forget the poor quality they receive it in. These companies are only hurting their own reputations.

My guess is that EA and Bioware don't understand the point of "minimum requirements". I believe they see it as "Minimum requirements you require to get this game to boot up" and the recommended is "Specs you NEED for this game to play at all"

I can also confirm that my system specs are above the recommended ones for this game, and it is running terrible for me. I have just about gave up on the game until it's patched. So don't feel bad about this; the problem is most likely not on your end.

  • Well to the original poster....according to your specs listed, you don't meet minimum requirements for the game.  While others are having issues, if what you listed is accurate, your issue is most likely your low computer specs.

Quad core processor is min requirement, and 4870amd card, which you don't show as having.

You list dual core and a 4600amd card.

I fixed my audio and FPS stuttering by disabling (NOT uninstalling) the Nvidia HD Audio and Realtek HD Audio devices, leaving only the playback device I was actually using enabled. Once I did that, my in-game stuttering disappeared. I'm running Win 8.1 x64, so your mileage may vary.
