Not sure what happens there as I didn't have such problem. However if it's companions that bug the place, try with tactics view while ordering everyone to hold their position and then moving just one character.
I tried that and I tried guiding the main character with the tactical view while ordering everyone to hold. They just rubberband next to the main character.
There is also something broken with giving directions using tactical mode there. It somehow super restricted for followers.
So in short... No, doesn`t work
Even if it did, it would still leave the random resetting unsolved.
