Why is Blackwall unavailable?

When i go to choose wich companions i want to bring, Blackwall has a X on his pic and i cant bring him. So what gives? Hes even gone from my Char list...did he Die?

Update: So i chose a save I had 20 mins before, and hes available again. Odd thing is his pic changed. When I can choose him as a party member hes facing front with a shield before him. When i cant choose him hes on a horse, bent over with his hood up, facing right, whith an X thru the pic, like i kicked him out or something. Anyone know what happened? Bug? thx.

Not a bug....Blackwall has a sidequest story and depending on how you deal with it, he will be unavailable for a short amount of time or even dead. You can search youtube for vids if you want exact details, but do some searching around your Keep and you should be able to find out all you need to know.

Didn't you run into a messenger by the horse stalls saying that Blackwall had disappeared? He's on a personal quest and it is a new side mission for you. If you didn't run into that cut scene, then I'm not sure why else he would be missing besides you asked him to leave.
For me his quest started after Wicked Hearts.

For me it happened after The Tomb of Fairel. I played for like 5 hours last nite and hes still with me...something in Skyhold must trigger his side quest. Thx for the info.

In my play throughs so far, his major personal quest appears to be tied to the completion of Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, as well as the completion of a romantic storyline.

IIRC, If you side with Duke Gaspard at the Winter Palace, and you have not romanced him, Blackwall dissappears upon returning from the party. Otherwise, if a female Inquisitor is romancing him, talking to him after the Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts quest eventually triggers a romance scene, after which he pulls his disappearing act, leaving a note behind in the stables. If a female Inquisitor is romancing someone else, then committing to another character after WE&WH seemed to trigger his dissappearance. A messenger will appear in the stables.

So, while you may have delayed it with your re-load, eventually he will disappear again.

Ya i got a glowing" ! "for Blackwall that started this quest.in Skyhold. he was with me from the start, so i took all his gear off him prior to starting the quest.
