You have lost connection to the session (PC)

So it's 2024 and I've just picked up the game with a buddy for nostalgia purposes.

Much to no avail of actually being able to play multiplayer, we keep getting the error message 'You have lost connection to the session'.

This problem is happening when we both host and try to join the host. We have also tried creating public matches and different combinations of difficulty and map and nothing changes.

I've searched the forums high and low and have found nothing but a bad taste in my mouth from how many other people I've seen with the same issue and generic bot responses from the mods telling them to repair the game files.

Has anyone actually been able to find a fix? Both using wired connections. No firewall issues and we both have the exact same DLC downloaded.
