I don't remember BioWare romance to ever be all that involved - I reckon it's just a case of your wild fantacies overhyping that leaves you disappointed.
I haven't had any issues with romancing the clear choice of Necro Daddy - He's dapper, has a literal skeleton servant, and always says "Great shot my love!" when I stab stuff and things in combat; it's all I need.
It's not wild fantasies hyping anybody up and leaving them let down... these are not like the romances from any of the previous games. In other games, you could walk up to your "romantic interest" at any time and have some replayable scene with them, or some type of interaction. This game is NOT that way.
With this game, once romances are locked in, unless it is a specific scene that they have in the script for the two, there is absolutely no interaction with your romantic partner. After I locked in with Davrin, every time we are all back at the lighthouse, he is always in someone else's room, or somewhere other than his own room, and it does not allow any interaction. Even if he's in his room, there are still no interaction possibilities. Same with Lucanis and others.
One time in particular Davrin was standing outside beside Assan - I could walk up to Assan and pet him, but Davrin just looked around like I wasn't even there. How much of any type of role play scenario is that ??? This is a role play game, yes?
These types of situations are with any of the companions you try to romance, plus the "romantic scenes" are lame as everything, unless you romance Taash - you get to see something in that scene reminiscent of previous games - that is the only companion with such a scene.
These things are why everybody is so ticked off. It's not some hyped up fantasy or perverted notions that aren't playing out - it's just the complete absence of any interaction, and the fact that the romances are not much more than a little friendship... you can have that with anybody there. These are not "romances."
Not to mention the mature rating that leave most wondering why there is even a "nudity" option in the settings.
Considering the success of BG3, you'd think BioWare would have learned something from that. There was more than a year between the release of BG3 and DAtV, which was plenty of time for BioWare to make sure they could compete in the gaming world today. But they didn't learn anything at all... and, still haven't. They know of their shortcomings, but they don't care what the fans think or want.
