Gamebreaking DirectX Bug

So, I have come to notice that whenever I play the game on High or Ultra quality the game crashes because apparently EA's developers are not able to construct a working game or come up with a decent patch even a month after release. I can't even get through the opening cutscenes with Solas without the game crashing with a DirectX error.

If anyone knows a solution for AMD players it would be great, apparently EA is too **bleep** incompetent to do it themselves.

GPU: AMD Radeon VII Pro 16GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Hex-Core
Windows 10

  • Since EA seems too icompetent to fix it themselves here is a temporary fix: delete the contents of the shade_cache folder

Another achievement in complete failure to let a mechanic constantly crash the game which should make it smoother. bravo ea, **bleep** bravo

I should do some more research into this, but I don't know how well this game is supposed to perform on a workstation GPU or if AMD even released drivers that support this game. Isn't this a GPU for video editing and demanding graphic design software?

Edit: The release notes of this GPU's driver mentioned Davinci Resolve (video editing) and some professional 3D software for designing drills, so nothing game related. I can only speak for myself, but I play on an AMD gaming GPU (Radeon RX 6650 XT), and with the latest driver it has been a crash-free experience. I can ask around if the Radeon VII Pro is supported, since the system requirements are a bit vague about that.

Edit 2: Whether this GPU is officially supported by EA is still unclear. My advice would be to contact AMD and ask whether this GPU has driver support for this game.

  • I've yet to find any answer to this issue that seems to be cropping up for a lot of people. I've done a clean reinstall of the latest Nvidia driver, repaired the game file and uninstalled and then reinstalled the whole game and re-compiled the shaders.

Error can happen while playing, in a cutscene, in the menu, etc. Not straight away for me but after 1-2 hours. Normally.

Since it seems to happen to both AMD and Nvidia GPUs, it doesn't seem to be a driver issue.

What method did you use for the clean install? I used to have "device removed" crashes ages ago when playing Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, which I resolved back then by removing my driver with DDU* before reinstalling it.

*DDU isn't officially endorsed by EA, so use at your own risk.
