EA App requires 2x the storage space of the game to update
This is a KNOWN issue that EA has essentially ignored, with a faux "solution" being to just multiply the free space by 2x vs. the actual install size.
If you Google the issue (ex. Why does the EA APP double the install size for updates) you'll see a thread where some EA employee named "EA_Darko" (real "cool, edgy" name there champ) or something like that closed the conversation after being called out for not providing an actual solution, or explaining why the EA App does this; which means they know it's an issue, but eh...not going to do anything about it.
It's an EXTREMELY inconvenient issue, ensuring you have to download twice the data and, in many cases, remove the game entirely and just re-install. Keep in mind: This is EA, the company that put out one of the very first 100GB+ games when they released the original Titanfall.
To have absolutely no answer to why this is (externally, at least) or rational solution is just unacceptable, incompetent, anti-consumer and lazy. If development costs are a concern, it's also greedy (surprise, surprise).
This just does not make a lick of sense, and will cost EA millions in cross-platform purchases on PC.
This isn't a minor gamer quibble; this is a serious issue. A LOT (i.e., Millions) of gamers are on data-restrictive plans through their ISPs; to force players to have to essentially re-download a 100GB+ game (ex. Jedi Survivor, etc.) is ludicrous, asinine and completely, unabashedly stupid. An awful experience for the end-users, and further reason to purchase any game offered on multiple platforms (ex. Steam) over the direct option of the EA App.
I really cannot fathom how such an issue can be allowed to persist. Powering the Next Generation of PC gaming my _)_) Furthermore, having employees respond to these concerns with basically, "That's just the way it is..." is not only a great way to alienate your fanbase, but also a good way to lose licenses from the likes of Disney (looking at you, Star Wars) and other companies seeing games made by EA studios perform much better on other platforms than their own.
YOU'RE DIGGING YOUR OWN GRAVE, EA. WHY? Just fix the issue, or shut down the service and move entirely over to Steam, GOG, or any other launcher. I spend HUGE amounts of money on PC games, as many others do; and I will NEVER purchase another title from the EA App if another option is available; and I will get my key from somewhere other than EA for those I cannot, if you catch my drift.
Horrible, horrible experience for the customers - and having employees do "damage control" by locking a thread is even worst when people complain; it's an acknowledgement of the issue and admission of guilt, with no remorse or reasonable solution.
EA: Look at the successes of platforms like Steam, or developers like Lariant - people aren't going to put up with this sort of thing much longer. You can either make sweeping changes, or die out like the dinosaur you're becoming. Shameful.
