EA Desktop client custom installation folder

Please give users the ability to change the directory where EA Desktop installs its main client.

I'm not refering to the installation directory of the games themselves, rather the EA Desktop application, as some users prefer to keep their System drives clear of any unnecessary programs (such as those who have their System drives on an M.2 drive), or prefer to install them on a separate HDD/SDD for better program/app management.

Having the installer automatically proceed installing upon double-clicking without prompts also presents some security issues as well.

  • Cm Edit in 2023, app has been updated and install sequence has been changed.

  • Saddly doesn't work. I set other directory, but they ignored and then installed on the first one

  • Yep,

I too have this Issue.  Kinda annoying when I try to keep all my launchers & Games on a specific Drive.

As of the current installer 12.170.0, the install location you set is ignored and EA Desktop is instead installed to C:\Program Files.  Pretty annoying.

Up ! This has not been fixed, at all.

If someone has a workaround, I'm in !

  • I just built a new computer with an SSD for the OS and the HDD for the games and other programs.  I do NOT want this app installed on my C drive, nor any games.  SSDs burn out faster if you write to them more, and saved games will run out the SSD's clock faster.  I don't want to spend another couple of hundred dollars and put in another 72 hours reloading my mandatory C drive software just because someone at EA decided to put out a BUGGY BETA PRODUCT.  This is as stupid as forcing SimCity to be a multiplayer-only game, or killing off Ultima in its prime.

I shouldn't need to run Origin or the EA App to install Crysis 3 or SimCity 4 Rush Hour anyway - they're both over a decade old, FFS.  I'm sick of being treated like a criminal - do it our way or you get nothing, inmate!  CEO Android Wilson needs to be fired and replaced with someone who actually likes gamers, doesn't treat them as his own personal wallet, and will make programs that work instead of releasing buggy crap.  I've not bought anything from EA since I bought Crysis 3, and this kind of company lack of ethics is exactly why.  They've killed off my favorite series, and they've made the remaining series so annoying to install that I won't bother.

I'm not installing this damned app until they fix it to where I have total control over where everything goes.  No money for EA, either, not until they bring back my favorite single-player offline games and start building new single-player games.  Otherwise, all your games can go the way of Anthem, for all I care.  I've got tons of other games to play.

  • Yeah, I've just re-installed the EA Desktop app after not using for at least 2 years due to previous issues with the app, and I'm still not able to install it to a custom location, like C:/Games/EA or so. Unbelievable.
